KYB Plastic Bag Recycling Drive
The annual Keep Yankton Beautiful plastic bag recycling drive is on. It’s a great way to get those bags out of the landfill and to the right place. Whether you have a handful or a trunk full, participate in the annual plastic bag recycling drive! Although plastic bags are no longer allowed in Yankton’s red recycling bins, you can still keep those plastic bags out of the landfill through the Hefty Energy Bag Program.
Drop off your plastic bags and pick up reusable Ziplock bag or a reusable tote bag! Convenient drop-off locations are the Summit Activities Center and the Yankton Community Library, now through November 15th. Find more information on the Facebook Event Page: 5th Annual Plastic Bag Recycling Drive.
Hartington’s Candlelight Christmas
Join the City of Hartington for the 25th annual Candlelight Christmas on Friday, November 22nd. The theme this year is Silver Bells. There will be a scavenger hunt, escape room, and Santa’s Silent Auction. Plus lots of delicious food, open houses, and great sales at downtown businesses. Visit with Santa starting at 5:30pm at the Senior Center, enjoy the lighted vehicle parade at 7:30, and take pictures with The Grinch! Shriners Parade of Trees
Bring the family & enjoy the festive activities at the annual Abu Bekr Parade of Trees. Opening this year November 22nd through the 30th. Enjoy a raffle style parade of trees. Where local area businesses and clubs donate the tree, the gifts and the time so area families can come and enjoy the festive activities and still have a chance at one of the beautiful trees. Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn
Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn will be presented at the Dakota Theatre November 22-24th. Holiday Inn tells the story of Jim, who leaves the bright lights of show business behind to settle down on his farmhouse in Connecticut… but life just isn’t the same without a bit of song and dance. Jim’s luck takes a spectacular turn when he meets Linda, a spirited schoolteacher with talent to spare. But when Jim’s best friend Ted tries to lure Linda to Hollywood to be his new dance partner, will Jim be able to salvage his latest chance at love?

Vermillion Standstill Parade of Lights
The 9th Annual Standstill Parade of Lights will be held in Historic Downtown Vermillion on Thursday, December 5th at 6pm to officially kick off the holiday season.
You won’t want to miss seeing Santa Claus as he officially lights the Vermillion Christmas Tree. Come check out the floats designed by businesses and organizations from the Vermillion Area, see live music, and enjoy hot drinks and treats.
Following the tree lighting, Santa will be available for pictures at the Library—don’t forget to bring your camera!
Yankton Holiday Festival of Lights
Bring the entire family to the Yankton Holiday Festival of Lights on Thursday, December 5th from 6-8pm. Look for Santa Claus on the very first float! Come early to shop, join in fun activities and to claim your spot along 3rd Street to watch this exciting holiday event!
After the parade, take a short walk to the Meridian Bridge for the official lighting of Yankton’s Christmas Tree, carolers, hot drinks and fireworks!

Light Up Yankton
Light Up the City of Yankton! Whether you’re more of a Charlie Brown Christmas tree kind of holiday decorator or a Clark Griswold type, just don’t be a Grinch. Help us Light Up Yankton! Prizes will be drawn every Friday from Thanksgiving to the new year. Register your home or business at www.yanktonsd.com. A virtual Google map will be posted on the website with participating addresses as we get closer to the holiday season.
Breakfast with Santa
Have a fun filled breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 7th at St. Agnes School in Vermillion from 9-11:30am. Cost is $10 for adults and 5 for kids. Serving a French toast and sausage breakfast, plus free pictures with Santa, and free crafts for the kids. You can also expect local vendors including the Scholastic book fair.
