Costume Swap Drop Off
Go green this Halloween. Save money and join the third annual costume swap at Yankton Community Library! Not familiar with a costume swap? It is an excellent way to find ‘new to you’, gently-used costumes, holiday clothing, and decorations while cleaning out your closet of unused items!
Now through Friday, October 4, you can donate clean and gently used Halloween costumes, general holiday clothing (ugly sweaters, youth holiday/Christmas fits), or fall decorations to ‘shop’ the Swap Store.
Donors will have exclusive access to the Swap Store to shop for some cute and spooky Halloween and holiday finds from 9 am to 10 am on Saturday, October 5. All items in the Swap Store will be free and open to the public from 10 am to 5 am on Saturday and from 1 pm to 5 pm on Sunday, October 6.

VHS Students to Present Three Classic Radio Plays
Vermillion High School thespians will be performing an evening of Radio Murders October 4th, 5th, and 6th. Agatha Christie’s “Personal Call,” and Lucilee Fletcher’s “The HitchHiker,” and “Sorry, Wrong Number” will be presented in a production that embraces the classic radio mystery style while bringing the stories to life through action on the VHS stage. Catch the special late-night opening show at 9:30 p.m. on Friday following the Tanagers vs. SF Christian Chargers football game. If you are not a night owl, you have two more opportunities to see the show on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Thomas H. Craig Center for Performing Arts. Tickets will be available at the door. The cost is $5 for adults, $3 for students, and admission is free for senior citizens and those with a Vermillion School District activity card.
Riverfront Broadcasting 20th Celebration
Riverfront Broadcasting is celebrating 20 years on the radio with a special concert coming to Yankton! Actor and Country star John Schneider, also known as Bo Duke from the Dukes of Hazzard TV series, will be at the Dakota Theatre on October 5th. Special guest Keith Burns from the hit making country group Trick Pony will be opening the night! Purchase tickets at Riverfront Broadcasting, located at1019 Broadway Ave in Yankton from 8am-5pm weekdays or online at www.dakotatheatre.org.
Vermillion Fire & EMS Open House
Join the Vermillion Fire & EMS for the annual open house on Sunday, October 6th from 2-5pm. Meet the first responders, enjoy hotdogs & refreshments, bounce house for the kids & many fun activities! Check out the Law Enforcement Vehicles, Fire Trucks & Ambulances! The open house is located at 820 N. Dakota Street in Vermillion.
Chili Blues
It’s a Chili Blues Cookoff at the W.H. Over Museum on Sunday, October 6th from 5-9pm. Make the best chili to win prizes. The chili blues cookoff competition will be judged by attendees. Bring you appetite and your best chili recipe. Cost is $15 for adults and $10 for students, $5 for kids ages 6-12 & children under 6 eat free. There will be live music and prizes. Listening Session
Join Southeast CASA for a listening Session on Monday, October 7th from 4:30-6pm, located at the United Way in Yankton. The topic will include: Strengthening Community Safety Through Victim Services. Be the voice for safer communities. Join Southeast CASA to address VOCA funding cuts and elevate victim services for a stronger and safer Southeastern South Dakota.
Yankton’s Meridian Bridge Block Party
Join the Meridian Bridge Centennial Committee for a Rededication on October 12th at 2pm. This marks 100 years since the bridge first opened to the public in 1924. As the first permanent structure to connect South Dakota and Nebraska over the Missouri River, the Meridian Bridge has played a significant role in Yankton’s economic and social development, fostering growth in the region.
This celebration in the Meridian District will feature honorary speakers, food, drinks, live music, and a special screening of South Dakota Public Broadcasting’s Dakota Life documentary, which highlights the bridge’s rich history.
The event offers a unique opportunity to honor the bridge’s legacy and celebrate its importance to Yankton, surrounding communities, and the state of South Dakota.

Harvest Halloween
It’s a Yankton fall tradition – Harvest Halloween is happening October 26th at a new location! Harvest Halloween will be moving to the City of Yankton’s LAWN space down by the Meridian pedestrian walking bridge.
This year’s festival includes: Art by Creative Hands Studio, Kiddie Train Rides, Cookie Decorating, Music by Phil Baker, A Magician, Inflatables, Corn Pit, Haybale Maze, Photo Ops, & Food Vendors.

Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn
Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn will be presented at the Dakota Theatre November 22-24th. Holiday Inn tells the story of Jim, who leaves the bright lights of show business behind to settle down on his farmhouse in Connecticut… but life just isn’t the same without a bit of song and dance. Jim’s luck takes a spectacular turn when he meets Linda, a spirited schoolteacher with talent to spare. But when Jim’s best friend Ted tries to lure Linda to Hollywood to be his new dance partner, will Jim be able to salvage his latest chance at love?
