Onlookers were treated to an early Fourth of July display when a truck hauling fireworks caught fire on June 6th, sending pyrotechnics skyward along a Tennessee highway.
Sparks flew for several minutes, stopping traffic in both directions, while astounded eyewitnesses filmed the spectacular scene near the city of Chattanooga. The truck’s trailer was “full of fireworks”, and all of them were “going off in different directions” after it caught fire.
The local fire department said the incident was quickly brought under control with no reported injuries.
The cause of the fire was not immediately available, and no injuries were reported. The roadway eventually reopened after cleanup was completed, the Tri-Community fire department said.
It wasn’t clear where the haul was headed. Consumer fireworks are generally legal in Tennessee, though local governments may prohibit them. Public fireworks productions require display permits, according to state rules.
