Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Soccer were both recognized in the latest Class AA Soccer Coaches Polls, released yesterday.
The Bucks are tied for 5th with Sioux Falls Washington in the latest boys’ poll, while the Gazelles are receiving votes in the girls’ poll.
Both Yankton teams are set to host Aberdeen Central on Saturday in their final home doubleheader of the regular season.
Yankton Bucks Football will host the Pierre Governors tomorrow night, in a rematch of last year’s 11AA Playoff Semi-Final.
Both teams enter the contest with a 3-1 record. The Bucks dropped their first game of the year to Harrisburg this past weekend, while the Governors are coming off a 20-17 win over Brookings.
Kickoff for tomorrow night’s Homecoming game is set for 7:00 PM at Crane-Youngworth Field. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 6:00 with Brayden Butler and Josh Boelter on the call.
Yankton High School will enshrine three inductees into their Athletic Hall of Fame this afternoon at the YHS Commons, Megan (Hilson) Hohenthaner, J.J. Hejna (hey-na), and Rob Ness.
Hohenthaner was a four-time track and field state champion and a member of three state championship cross-country teams for YHS, earning an individual state championship as a junior.
Hejna shone in multiple sports for the Bucks, earning a Class AA High Jump State Championship, an event in which he holds the YHS record. Hejna was also a two-time all-state selection in football and was a 2nd-team all-state selection in basketball.
Ness had a hand in four state championships in track in 1996, winning individual titles in the 100 and 200, and as part of the 400 and 800 relay teams. Ness was also an all-state defensive back in football in 1997.
The new inductees will be honored at 5:00 PM at Yankton High School. The public is invited to attend.
Mount Marty Women’s Soccer set a new program record for wins in a single season last night, defeating Midland 3-0 to improve to 5-3.
Shakira Nolasco, Eleanor Haslam, and Marissa Moyle all scored in the win. Brooklyn McNac kept a clean sheet in net, recording 8 saves.
The Lancer men played Midland to a 2-2 draw in the other matchup in the doubleheader. Rex Chiles and Zach Hebda both scored in the draw.
The Lancers will host Dordt on Saturday in a doubleheader. The men play first at 5:00 PM, with the women to follow.
Mount Marty Volleyball fell to the College of Saint Mary last night, 3-1 in Omaha, Nebraska.
Jaya Wachholtz led the Lancers with 20 kills, the most of any player in the match. Caitlin Guenther added 10 kills and 3 blocks. Julia Weber totaled 37 assists.
The Lancers host Waldorf on Saturday for their next match. First serve from Cimpl Arena is set for 3:00 PM.
Yankton Gazelles Tennis has a varsity triangular today at Sioux Falls Washington High School.
The Gazelles will face Washington at 9:00 AM before ending the event against Harrisburg at 11:30 AM.
Yankton Cross Country hosts a varsity invitational tonight at Fox Run Golf Course. Varsity girls run at 5:05 with the varsity boys scheduled for 5:30.
