Several artists have withdrawn from upcoming dates on Ed Sheeran’s tour after Macklemore was removed from the lineup following comments supporting Palestinians. In statements issued after the change, Finneas, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe and Irish band Beoga said they would no longer take part in scheduled shows.
The withdrawals followed Macklemore’s public response to his removal, in which he said his comments about Gaza, the West Bank and Palestinian rights had contributed to the decision. He also raised concerns about the influence venue owners and other powerful figures can have over artists and live events.
The dispute began after Macklemore made pro-Palestinian remarks during performances at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. His comments drew criticism from the Israeli-American Council, which called for him to be removed from future dates.
Sheeran has said he did not make the final decision and had tried to find a solution. According to his explanation, the promoter and venues were ultimately responsible for determining whether Macklemore would remain on the tour.
